Every year in the U.S., an estimated 3,960 fatal unintentional drownings occur. A new partnership between Greenbrier County Schools and the Greenbrier Valley Aquatic Center (GVAC) will provide swim & water safety instruction during regular Health classes for all 6th-grade students with parental permission. Classes will take place during the school day with bus transportation to facilitate student participation.
School board officials joined GVAC leaders to sign a memorandum of understanding at the regular meeting of the Board of Education on September 13. This programming is made possible through the school levy, which is on the ballot for renewal on November 8.
