Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to let you know that due to inclement weather days, make-up days are necessary for the 2024-2025 school year.
Inclement Weather Policy: Greenbrier County Schools can use five accrued instructional days for the first five inclement weather days. These five days do not have to be made up, and there is no remote learning. The school system can use remote learning for the second five inclement weather days. These allowances are due to our daily instructional time being longer than the law requires.
Unprecedented Winter: This has been the first winter in many years that we have exceeded the allocated days. Greenbrier County Schools submitted a waiver to the WV Department of Education to use remote learning days for any future inclement weather days this winter. Unfortunately, the waiver was denied as it would require a code change. The current code mandates 180 instructional days and permits the five accrued days and five remote days for counties exceeding the required daily instructional minutes.
Approved Calendar Changes: The Board members have approved the following changes to the 2024-2025 school calendar to accommodate the necessary make-up days:
· April 4: Parent Teacher Conference will become a school day.
· April 22: PL day will become a school day with a 2-hour early release for Faculty Senate. The PL day is moved to June 10.
· April 21: The Monday after Easter will become a school day. This was an OS day and will be moved to the end of the year.
· June 6: No early release for Faculty Senate.
· June 9: This will become a school day and the last day for students with a 2-hour early release for Faculty Senate.
· June 10: Professional Learning (PL) day – staff only.
· June 11: CD day – staff only.
· June 12: Prep day – staff only.
· June 13: OS day.
We understand that these changes may cause some inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we work to ensure that our students receive the required instructional days.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Nancy Hanna, Associate Superintendent
Greenbrier County Schools
