Rupert Elementary's afterschool Run Club had a colorful fun run to celebrate the end of the year! The Active SWV Kids Run Club program seeks to improve the health of southern West Virginia’s youth by empowering them with the opportunities, skills, knowledge, and confidence to be physically active. The central goal of the program is to instill healthy habits in our area’s youth and to get them excited about running and physical activity. Active SWV hopes that all participants find joy and confidence with running and physical activity, so that they can continue to be active beyond their time in the Club. Active SWV offers a $250 grant that Rupert Elementary has participated in for 4 seasons.

Rupert Elementary's afterschool program, Empower, invited parents to their last day. Students planted flowers into a handmade decorated flowerpot with Principal Mrs. Harden. Attendees were treated with a cooking demonstration from Greenbrier West Pro-start Culinary students. They made delicious cookie dough wontons. Three Rupert Elementary alumni were in attendance and inspired some of our students to join the club when they arrive at Greenbrier West! Students finished with an amazing archery demonstration with the help of their instructor, Mr. Warnick. The parents were impressed with the skills their children have learned this year. A big thank you to Chef Foley and his team, Mrs. Harden, Mr. Warnick, and all the after-school staff for today!

Rupert Elementary Pre-K planted grass heads with principal, Mrs. Harden this week. Once the "hair" starts growing, they will be able to give them haircuts.

Both Rupert PreK classes planted lettuce and radishes last week with principal, Mrs. Harden as part of their Teaching Strategies Gardening Study. Their favorite part was the wagon rides to and from the school garden. They also had to weed the garden beds before they could plant the seeds.

Rupert Elementary EmPower After-school painted rain barrels for Greenbrier River Watershed Association Fundraiser and Earth Day celebration at Lost World. They will both be auctioned, with one staying at Rupert Elementary!

Rupert Elementary students were thrilled to celebrate the GCS Elementary Teacher of the Year, Amber Osborne, during a special assembly! Congratulations, Mrs. Amber! #TeacheroftheYear

Student Council members from Rupert & Smoot Elementary Schools visited the Capitol for a mock legislative session. Led by Stephen Baldwin, with the help of Senator Richard Lindsay and Senate President Craig Blair, the students debated multiple topics such as changing the state's name to 'Pepperoni' and having a four-hour recess. Students also went on a Capitol tour and visited the Culture Center while in Charleston.

Students enjoyed their Egg Hunt for the end of the nine weeks reward! We are so thankful for our parent volunteers that helped hide over 2,000 eggs for our students!

Rupert Elementary: Reminder! Spring Fundraisers (orders and money) are due this Friday, April 14th.
We have BIG things planned for our end of the year reward day AND teachers are scheduling end of the year field trips! Thank you for supporting our students and our school. Mrs. Amber's PreK students completed their pet study! They learned all about animals and how to care for them. Students were able to adopt a dog to care for and get a Certificate of Adoption. The class also discussed how to care for their class pet rabbit, Rupert. Animal-shaped PB&J sandwiches were enjoyed by all students and Mrs. Harden stopped in to read a book about animals.

Mrs. Amber's PreK class at Rupert Elementary went searching for the Easter Bunny before Spring Break. Although they didn't find the Easter Bunny, they enjoyed their adventure on Rupert's walking trail. They had some creative time to draw their own bunny trails with sidewalk chalk before heading back inside the school.

After learning about Mexican hajalata (tin art) and Mexican folk artists' fascination with the sun, Mr. Warnick's 4th Grade Class at Rupert Elementary constructed their own Mexican-style sun. Mrs. Baker from Carnegie Classrooms taught the students about repoussé, a metalworking technique, and helped them create their own masterpiece using art foam, foil, and brightly colored sharpie markers.
