2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students at Rupert Elementary enjoyed a performance at Historic Carnegie Hall followed by a wonderful lunch at Carlitos Mexican Restaurant. Thank you to both Carnegie Hall and Carlitos for having us.
Principal Jenny Harden knows that the safety of her students is a number 1 priority to ensure that students can work to achieve their full potential. Each morning Mrs. Harden and staff are outside welcoming students into the school. When students walk into our school they feel loved, accepted, and seen. We strive to create a community within our school which creates a family atmosphere. We educate the whole child from within and hope those skills carry them into adulthood.
In January Mrs. Harden will begin her 13th year at Rupert Elementary School. Before that she was a School Improvement Transformation Specialist, taught ProStart as well as Family and Consumer Sciences. This is Mrs. Harden's 28th year in education. She is grateful for the opportunity serve students, staff and families each day. "I feel blessed to be a part of the Greenbrier County team!"
Mrs. Jessey and Mrs. Theresa's class have been reading the story "The Gingerbread Man" and they were even visited by the Gingerbread Man. During the school day the Gingerbread Man went missing! The class ventured through the school to search for him. Thankfully, one of the police officers at our school was able to join in and help us search for the missing Gingerbread Man. Thanks to Mrs. Jessi our school secretary and the police officer, Mr. Martin, we were able to locate him in the hallway! Our students are great detectives!

School bus transportation plays a critical role in the education of our nation's students and is the direct link between a neighborhood and the classroom. Each day, GCS transports approximately 2,925 students an estimated 4,570 miles -- a distance comparable to driving across the U.S. and more than halfway back. National School Bus Safety Week reminds us all to keep school bus safety at the forefront.
Since 1993, officials around the world proclaim the third week in October as #CharacterCountsWeek. GCS students learn the importance of developing and demonstrating good character every day through Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.
Rupert Volunteer Fire Department visited Rupert Elementary this week to speak about the importance of fire safety and prevention. Thank you RVFD for coming during Fire Prevention Week!
Rupert Elementary enjoyed a visit from "Peggy the Pig" on Friday. Students were able to pet Peggy and ask questions about things she likes to do, where she sleeps, and what she eats. Peggy enjoyed visiting with the students and exploring the school.
Students at Rupert Elementary enjoyed their first week in the after-school program, Empower! They loved learning about coding robots with Ozbots, and made their own codes to move the Ozbots around in various ways. The students were excited to do this awesome activity! #EmPower!
The hallways at Rupert Elementary are always so bright thanks to Mrs. Davis, Art Teacher at Rupert/Smoot. She displays student artwork all over the school. Students have their own personal art gallery that they can walk through every day! GCS art programs are supported by the school levy.

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) serves nearly 30 million children every school day. President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom. GCS celebrates #NSLW and the 2022 theme, Peace, Love & School Lunch.
Greenbrier County Schools reminds families that Monday, October 10, is a Professional Learning and Faculty Senate Day. Students do not report on October 10th. Thank you.
Over $300,000 was awarded to West Virginia public schools from Ball Toyota, L and S Toyota, and Advantage Toyota. The United Way also received contributions from the 3 dealerships. President of WVU, Gordon Gee, President of Marshall University, Brad Smith, and First Lady Cathy Justice were just a few in attendance. Jenny Harden accepted $1,300 on behalf of Rupert Elementary School. The money will be used to purchase food, clothing, or any other essential items needed for our students.
October is National Bullying Awareness Month. GCS students who experience or witness bullying can make an anonymous report to school officials using the STOPit web app at https://appweb.stopitsolutions.com/login or by downloading the STOPit app on any mobile device. Links to STOPit and incident reports are available on school and district websites and bookmarked on all student Chromebooks. Teachers and parents can assist students in submitting reports if they are too young to do so themselves. #StopBullying #BeKind
The police officer at Rupert Elementary took time to visit Pre-K and play in the art center with students yesterday! They enjoyed his company and had lots of questions for him. #LoveMyWVSchool
